There is well-developed agriculture in Gori municipality. Shida Kartli region is famous for its fruit and vegetables (especially peaches and apples).

They have high quality and are distinguished by aroma and sugar. Fruit is storage and transportation-friendly.

There is a fruit and vegetable processing industry in the municipality, however, it has greater potential.

Leading products are wheat flour, canned goods, apple concentrate, spirits, alcohol, fruits, and vegetables.

 

34 enterprises are working in this field in Gori Municipality, which employs more than 800 people.

Some of the enterprises are temporarily suspended or work seasonally. The main problem is old equipment and low investments.

Villagers of mountainous areas practice beekeeping. Having good natural and climate conditions honey has a special aroma and medicinal features.

There are a lot of fish farms, farmers breed trout and sturgeon and seasonally produce trout caviar.

In mountainous villages, the population is mainly engaged in livestock production. Cattle are fed in an ecologically clean environment. Farming is also well-developed.

Mejvriskhevi Poultry Factory is known throughout Georgia, it produces eggs and meat.

 

Gori is famous for its special varieties of grapes:  Green, Chinebuli, and  Tavkveri.

There are wine factories in Gori municipality, which supply both Georgian and foreign markets.

There are  10 wine cellars in Ateni and Khidistavi, where wine and Georgian brandy "Chacha" are produced in a traditional Georgian way.

The Biodiversa+ grant competition will be held in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

 

 

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia will be one of the partners and co-sponsors of the European Biodiversity Partnership (Biodiversa+) grant competition "Nature-based solutions (NBS) for biodiversity, human well-being, and transformative changes".

Mr. Pavliashvili expressed gratitude to the European partners for their long-standing support, noting that the government of Georgia has taken several significant steps toward biodiversity in response to their recommendations.

Within the framework of the European Biodiversity Partnership (Biodiversa+) grant competition, scientists will conduct research in the field of biodiversity. Moreover, to participate in the competition, it is necessary to create a consortium, where representatives of two European Union countries will be involved jointly with the Georgian scientists. 

In the initial stage, the applications will be reviewed by the experts of the European Biodiversity Partnership. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will vote on the following stage. Currently, applications for the grant competition are being submitted.


The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture became a member of the European Union co-financed partnership Biodiversa+ (European et al.) in 2023. The European Biodiversity Partnership aims to promote and harmonize the development of outstanding quality biodiversity research, public awareness, and policy development.

The USAID Resilient Communities Program announces the Agriculture Grant Competition for Improved Productivity.

 

The goal of the grant competition is to enhance the capabilities of agricultural micro and small enterprises within the communities located along the Administrative Boundary Lines, which will assist them in tapping into new markets while increasing their income and employment opportunities.

In order to provide detailed information to potential applicants and facilitate the application process, the USAID Resilient Communities Program will conduct information meetings in all 11 target municipalities.
