About Gori Municipality

Gori municipality is located in the central part of eastern Georgian region of Shida Kartli. Administrative center of the municipality is Gori City. The total area of Gori Municipality is 1352 km2. Gori Municipality consists of 1 city (Gori) and 120 villages. The population of the municipality is 125,692 - men (48.3%) and women (51.7%), 38% of the population lives in urban areas and 62% in rural areas.

Gori Municipality is situated  76km west of the capital, Tbilisi. The highway and main railway of Georgia run across Gori Municipality.

Gori  City is convenient to travel from any direction by train and/or any public transport. The nearest airports are Tbilisi international airport and Kutaisi international airport.

Tbilisi state airport is 100km away from Gori City. On average, it takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there by car.

Kutaisi international airport is 174 km away from Gori City On average, it takes 2 hours and 40 minutes to get to the airport by car. Gori municipality is close to the ports as well. The nearest ports are Poti  - 247 km and Batumi  - 292 km.

Gori Municipality is one of the well-developed economic centers in the country, with rich traditions and experience in the field of industry.

The main sectors of the economy are tourism and trade and services, the food and beverage industry, agriculture, and renewable energy.

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, there have been 1623 non-financial enterprises operating in the territory of Gori Municipality since 2016.

In 2017, 93 non-profits (non-commercial) legal entities were registered, which is 76 more than the number registered in 2016.

59.1% of the population is fit to work and the unemployment rate equals 12% 1.

Most of the people are self-employed (in agriculture, trade )and they do not consider themselves employed.

The average salary of employees is 762.1 GEL. 

The existence of human resources and cheap labor is facilitated by the educational institutions in the municipality.

There are 67 public schools in Gori,12 are in the city and 55 in the countryside.

Gori State University operates 22 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs (Faculty of Social Sciences, Business, Law Education, Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences and Humanities).

There is also "Gantiadi" Vocational College, which has 11 vocational education programs (fruit growing, horticulture, beekeeping, painting).
